PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method of a light olefin having 2 to 4 carbon atoms with a high selectivity, while suppressing the selectivity of carbon dioxide as a byproduct, particularly, a production method of propylene with a high selectivity, and a production method of olefin with a high selectivity while suppressing the selectivity of carbon dioxide as a byproduct.SOLUTION: The production method of olefin having 2 to 4 carbon atoms includes: a first step of allowing a synthesis gas containing carbon monoxide, hydrogen, and carbon dioxide to react in the coexistence of a catalyst containing an iron element and a dispersion medium through a Fischer-Tropsch reaction to obtain a mixture containing a hydrocarbon compound; and a second step of bringing the mixture into contact with a decomposition catalyst comprising zeolite containing at least one element selected from a group consisting of alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, and transition metals, to induce catalytic decomposition. The content of carbon dioxide in the synthesis gas in the first step is 0.3 mol% or more and less than 50 mol%; and Z calculated by formula (1) in the first step is 7×10or less. |
