The invention provides the plasmid pCRT01 having the sequence shown in SEQ ID NO: 1 or its functional derivative, novel bacterial strains Paracoccus aminophilus CRT1 and Paracoccus kondratievae CRT2 deposited in the IAFB Collection of Industrial Microorganisms of the Institute of Agricultural and Food Biotechnology in Warsaw as Paracoccus aminophilus KKP 2053p and Paracoccus kondratievae KKP 2054p, respectively, and uses thereof. The invention also relates to a method of using strains for producing carotenoids and to a method of producing bacterial strains capable of producing carotenoid dyes, using the novel strains Paracoccus aminophilus KKP 2053p and Paracoccus kondratievae KKP 2054p.
