A light diffusion member according to one embodiment of the present invention is provided with a light diffusion film, a polarizing film and a retardation film. The light diffusion film is provided with a first base, a light diffusion part and a light blocking layer. The polarizing film is provided with a second base and a polarizing layer. The retardation film is provided with a third base and a retardation layer which is formed of an optically negative uniaxial birefringent body, and wherein the orientation direction of the birefringent body changes in the thickness direction. The slow axis of the retardation layer is in a direction between the transmission axis and the absorption axis of the polarizing layer.
