The present invention provides a method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device which has a wide temperature range for expressing a blue phase, responds at a high speed, and has high contrast. The method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device includes a process of irradiating, with light, liquid crystal cells in a structure in which a liquid crystal composition is interposed between a pair of transparent substrates. The liquid crystal composition includes a liquid crystalline material and a polymerizable monomer. The liquid crystalline material exhibits a blue phase. A pair of electrodes is formed on the transparent substrates. An organic film is formed on the surface of a liquid crystal composition side of at least one of the transparent substrates. The organic film includes a compound having at least one selected from the group consisting of a portion having a polymerizable unsaturated bond, a portion of generating radicals by irradiation of light, and a portion having a light increasing and decreasing function. |
