[Class 12 (iii)] Lubricant is supplied to the back faces of vehicle wheels 9 and to the flange-engaging faces 18 of a check or guide rail 1 provided on a curved section of a railway by pumps 2 communicating with reservoirs 4 and having plungers 7 operated by the wheel treads and delivering the lubricant through tubular bolts 6 to a compartment 23 at the side of the rail 1 from which it is discharged through spaced grooves 24 in the inner face of a distributing plate 11. The check rail may be milled out at 28 to receive the top of the plate 11 and the upper part of the rail may be built up by welding 29 to withstand the lateral twist of the wheel flanges. The pumps 2 are mounted at the ends of a bracket 3 secured against the running rail 5 by the bolts 6, and formed with lubricant passages 2b. The compartment 23 is formed against the rail 1 by the plate 11, endplates 21, a spacing block 19, and shims 20 clamped in position by nuts 33, bushes 14, and nuts 31 on the bolts 6. The bushes 14 are formed with channels 15 and holes 16 communicating by holes 13 with the central passages in the bolts 6. In other constructions the bushes 14 are omitted and the lubricant is discharged through lateral orifices in the plate 11. Specification 530,475 is referred to. |
