627,223. Chucks. SKODA WORKS, PLZEN. June 12, 1946, No. 17553. Convention date, Aug. 2, 1943. [Class 83 (iii)] [Also in Group XXVIII] The bearing-surface of a slip-ring 4 for admitting compressed air into a cylinder 2 of a chuck for a lathe &c. is of conical shape, the apex angle of the cone being of such a size as to preclude the risk of self-clamping. The slipring 4 slides on a rotating conical sleeve 3 fast on the cylinder shaft 1 and is carried on a yoke pivoted to the machine frame at 13. Air enters via a pipe 5 and also operates a piston 6 which presses the slip-ring over the sleeve to limit the escape of air. A non-return valve 17 ensures that air exhausts out only between the ring and the sleeve, thus serving to carry lubricant to the parts in contact. |
