<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charger capable of having a simplified charging system and dealing with a charging of various kinds of secondary batteries. <P>SOLUTION: A charger 1 comprises: a characteristics acquisition section 10; a charging voltage detection section 20; a charging current determination section 30; and a charging current supplying section 40. The characteristics acquisition section 10 acquires, from a secondary battery BT, initial information on the battery side with respect to characteristics of the secondary battery BT. The charging voltage detection section 20 detects a charging voltage V<SB POS="POST">BT</SB>of the secondary battery BT. The charging current determination section 30, using the initial information on the battery side, determines a current value of charging current I<SB POS="POST">CHG</SB>in accordance with the charging voltage V<SB POS="POST">BT</SB>of the secondary battery BT detected by the charging voltage detection section 20.
