The method involves estimating thermal state variables of a clutch device (16) by integrating a sum of product of an evolution matrix by a state vector comprising values of previously estimated variables and a product of an excitation matrix by an excitation vector comprising values of excitation variables collected at time of the estimation. A single block component (28) is discretized into two distinct contiguous elements (30, 32) at temperature in which each element forms the thermal state variable. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling a clutch.
