摘要 The present invention provides an apparatus and methods for continuous intravascular measurement of whole blood concentration, blood pressure, and pulse pressure. The intravascular catheter incorporates a sensor to measure whole blood sound velocity, attenuation, backscatter amplitude, and blood flow velocity and also incorporates existing technologies for multiple physiologic measurements of whole blood. Pulse wave velocity and wave intensity are derived mathematically for purposes of estimating degree of local vascular tone.

An apparatus for continuously monitoring arterial blood pressure comprising: an intravascular catheter having a chamber filled with a fluid; a transducer disposed in the chamber, wherein the transducer is configured to periodically transmit an ultrasound signal that propagates through the fluid; a reflector disposed in the chamber and spaced apart from the transducer, wherein the transducer is configured to detect at least a portion of the signal that is reflected from the reflector; and an analysis device configured to determine speed of sound through the fluid in the chamber based on transit times of the signals periodically transmitted between the transducer and reflector, wherein the analysis device is configured to continuously determine an arterial blood pressure using an equation defining a relationship between the arterial blood pressure and based on the measured speed of sound through the fluid in the chamber.
