Glass bodies and methods of making glass bodies and more particularly glass bodies, for example, microlenses and arrays of microlenses and methods of making the same are described. Cordierite powder is vitrified to form a glass body or glass bodies for instance a microlens or microlenses.

1. A method of making a glass body, the method comprising;
providing a substrate having a surface with cordierite powder disposed thereon, wherein the substrate comprises a material selected from a glass, a soda lime glass, display glass, high purity fused silica, a semi-conductor material, silicon, a fusion formable glass, a glass-ceramic, and a combination thereof; and irradiating at least one discrete region of the cordierite powder such that the irradiated cordierite powder vitrifies to form the glass body.
