In one aspect, a system for the production of fertilizer from organic waste comprises a microbial digester configured to digest the organic waste, wherein the digestion of the organic waste produces a digestate having a liquids component and a solids component. A spray dryer module is provided for receiving the digestate and reducing moisture content in the digestate to produce a substantially dry fertilizer product. In further aspects, methods and fertilizer compositions are provided. |

1. A method for the production of fertilizer, comprising the steps of:
obtaining a raw digestate comprising microbically digested organic waste and having a liquids component and a solids component; acidulating the raw digestate to convert ammonia in the raw digestate to ammonium ion by decreasing a pH of the raw digestate to thereby produce a pH-adjusted digestate; and reducing moisture content of the pH-adjusted digestate, said reducing moisture content including evaporating moisture from the pH-adjusted digestate using a falling film evaporator to produce a concentrated digestate having a percentage of solids greater than a percentage of solids of the pH-adjusted digestate and spray drying the concentrated digestate to produce a substantially dry fertilizer product. |
