Integration of intra-oral imagery and volumetric imagery

Shape data of a patient's crown and volumetric imagery of the patient's tooth are received. A determination is made of elements that represent one or more crowns in the shape data. A computational device is used to register the elements with corresponding voxels of the volumetric imagery. A tooth shape is determined from volumetric coordinates and radiodensities.

1. A method, comprising:
receiving shape data of a patient's crown and volumetric imagery of the patient's tooth; determining elements that represent one or more crowns in the shape data; and using a computational device to register the elements with corresponding voxels of the volumetric imagery, the method further comprising: determining volumetric coordinates and radiodensities corresponding to the voxels; and determining at least one of the patient's roots via region growing from starting locations that include one or more of the determined volumetric coordinates and radiodensities at the voxels.
