The purpose of the present invention is to provide a wire electrical discharge machining method suitable for shortening the time from rough processing to finish processing. The present invention is configured so that: the wire electrical discharge machining apparatus (1) performs cut-out processing of a workpiece (21) using a wire electrode and when doing so, retains the cut-out material (23) on the workpiece (21) using a weld section (25) produced by melting a portion of the wire electrode at least at one portion of the processed shape of the workpiece (21); a control unit (17) moves an upper head unit (5) and/or a lower head unit (7); the wire electrical discharge machining apparatus (1) detaches the cut-out material (23) from the workpiece (21); and a collecting unit (15) collects the detached cut-out material (23).
