An inverter testing apparatus (10) for testing a single phase inverter (1) is provided with: a direct current power supply (5) for supplying the inverter (1) with direct current power; a test equipment inverter (2) connected to the direct current side of the inverter (1); an inductor (4a) connected between the alternating current side of the inverter (1), and the alternating current side of the test equipment inverter (2); a PWM control unit (32) that controls an alternating current voltage of the inverter (1) to be at a constant amplitude and a constant frequency; a current detector (7) that detects a current (i) flowing to the inductor (4a); a control unit (31) that calculates a phase command value (θ2r) of the test equipment inverter (2) so as to control the current detected by means of the current detector (7); and a PWM control unit (33) that controls the phase of the test equipment inverter (2) on the basis of the phase command value (θ2r) thus calculated.
