[Class 141] A corset has a back section having separate upper and lower parts between which there is a transverse slit located at the waistline to allow freedom of movement, a transverse band with free upper and lower edges being provided beneath the slit. As shown, the upper part 26 of the back section has a lower bound edge 30 which is arched upwardly and anchored at the sides just-below the waistline to seams 28. The lower part 31 has its upper edge 33 similarly arched and this edge abuts the lower edge of the upper portion when the wearer is in a standing position. The transverse band portion 34 has its side edges secured to the seams 28 and its upper and lower edges free. Pairs of stiffeners are provided at seams 27 in the upper part and at outwardly offset seams 32 in the lower part. Single stiffeners 44, 46, laterally offset from each other are also provided in the lower portion and in the band portion 34 respectively. As the wearer takes up various positions, the edges 30, 33 of the slit move relatively to each other over the fixed band portion. The front portion of the corset is provided with a stiffened lining member secured at its side edges to the side seams of the garment and with its upper and lower edges free. Specification 366,976 is referred to.
