<p>A power system of a floating vessel comprises an AC power distribution bus (10), comprising plural bus sections (11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16). The plural bus sections are connectable by means of bus ties (18) and bus tie breakers (19) are configured to be operable so as to electrically isolate each bus section from the remaining bus sections. The power system is adapted to be segregated into at least two power system sections (210, 220, 230, 240, 250, 260) each comprising a bus section, a thruster drive (22) connected to the bus section and an energy source (50, 60) connected to the AC power distribution bus. The energy source in at least one power system section (220, 230, 250) comprises a generator (60) and the energy source in at least one power system section (210, 240, 260) comprises an electric energy storage device (50). The electrical energy storage device provides energy to the AC power distribution bus (10)as spare capacity to supplement energy from one or more generators, or to replace one or more generators (60)in the event of fault or failure. The electric energy storage device has a power rating, such that it is capable of powering the thruster drive of the respective power system section for a predetermined amount of time.</p> |
