The present invention refers to a process for the intrinsic or in situ obtention of metallic foams of Al-Cu-Fe alloys having wide porosity ranges, which are obtained by thermal treatments at temperatures higher than those used in a conventional manner, which manufacture does not require any type of foaming or spacing agents, also referring to the obtained product. The obtained foams present unique properties, thus being highly porous, with pore sizes ranging from about 0.01 to about 3 mm2, also presenting prismatic shapes and may reach a porosity of 70%. The manufacturing cost is low, as it only requires thermal treatments applied to already manufactured alloys. The obtained foams may be used in the manufacture of heat or energy exchangers, sound absorbers and filters highly resistant to wear, also in structural applications. |
