[Class 75 (i)] In an incandescent mantle lamp of the pressure type the generator consists of a heavy walled metal tube 35 supported by a valve housing 11 above the lamp reservoir 10 and charged with anti-surge filling material 35a, the tube being of curved form so as to be spaced sufficiently from the mantle 29 to prevent the formation of a highly heated local area and the upper end of the tube discharging into a mixing tube 27 from which the mantle 29 depends. With a mantle of 1 inch diameter the generator suitably consists of a “ inch diameter aluminium tube of a wall thickness of .032 inch, the distance D between the centres of the mantle and generator being from 1 to 2 inches. The filling material preferably consists of plain or twisted glass filaments surmounted by a screen of Monel metal. The upper end of the generator is fitted with a nozzle movable in a supporting tube carried by a block 20 supporting the mixing tube 27 as described in Specification 565,706. At starting a slight opening of the valve 36 allows an upward movement of a spring-pressed rod 47 to admit fuel to a tube 43 from which it passes with compressed air entering through an aperture 43a through a tube 44 to the generator 35. When the generator has become heated a fuller opening of the valve 36 allows more fuel to enter the tube 44 and the passage of air to the tube 43 is prevented so that only fuel passes to the generator 35.</p> |
