PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a back plate manufacturing method capable of easily manufacturing a back plate having excellent mechanical strength, and to provide a back plate having excellent mechanical strength and a brake pad having high reliability.SOLUTION: A back plate manufacturing method of the present invention is the method for manufacturing a back plate to be bonded to a friction material of a brake pad equipped therewith, and includes the steps of: preparing pellet raw material containing resin and raw fiber; cutting the pellet raw material and obtaining a plurality of pellets containing the resin and fiber formed by cutting the raw fiber; opening the fiber contained in the pellets; and performing compression molding on the opened pellets and obtaining the back plate. In the step of opening the fiber, the pellets are heated at a temperature of 80°C or more and 140°C or less, when opening the fiber contained in the pellets.
