PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method for obtaining metal particles having high durability and excellent designing property to be used as taggant particles.SOLUTION: An example of the production method of metal particles includes: a rugged pattern formation step of forming a rugged pattern 9 on a surface of a sacrificial layer 25 containing an alkali-soluble resin on a substrate 23; a metal rugged layer formation step of forming a metal rugged layer 27 on the sacrificial layer; a metal layer formation step of forming a metal layer 29 on the metal rugged layer; a resist layer formation step of forming a resist layer 31 containing an alkali-soluble resin and having a predetermined pattern on the metal layer; a metal particle formation step of etching the metal rugged layer and the metal layer to form metal particles 1a, 1b; and a peeling step of removing the sacrificial layer and the resist layer by use of an alkaline developer, so as to peel the metal particles from the substrate 23.
