Disclosed herein is a device for continuous physiological monitoring as well as systems and methods for interpreting data from such a device. The systems and methods may include automatically detecting, assessing, and analyzing exercise activity, physical recovery states, sleep states, and the like. The acquisition of continuous physiological data may facilitate automated recommendations concerning changes to sleep, recovery time, exercise routines, and the like.

1. A method comprising:
monitoring data from a wearable, continuous-monitoring, physiological measurement system worn by a user; automatically detecting exercise activity of the user; generating a quantitative assessment of the exercise activity; automatically detecting a physical recovery state of the user; generating a quantitative assessment of the physical recovery state; and analyzing the quantitative assessment of the exercise activity and the quantitative assessment of the physical recovery to automatically generate a recommendation on a change to an exercise routine of the user.
