The present invention provides a method for making printable sheet material comprising the steps of introducing a quantity of a curable composition to a substrate and curing the curable composition, wherein the curable composition comprises free radical polymerizable water 5 soluble oligomers or monomers, wherein the substrate is coated with the curable composition, wherein the substrate is not substantially impregnateable with the curable composition. In a subsequent step the method comprises printing on the coated substrate. The invention also relates to products from the process.
