An apparatus 10 is described for spreading a spreadable food material such as butter onto another food material such as bread. The apparatus has a handle 16 and a hopper 18 which receives butter through its opening 30. The hopper also has an elongate aperture (32, Fig. 8), and a feeder 14 to apply pressure to cause the butter to extrude from the aperture so that it can be spread onto the bread using a blade 42 provided adjacent to the aperture. The aperture (32, Fig. 8) may be a slot that is wider at either end than in the middle. The hopper may be made of sheet stainless steel and may be cuboidal, with one face extending at an edge to form the blade. The blade may extend perpendicularly to the face, and the junction between the face and the blade may define an edge of the aperture. |
