<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To store a significant captured image, while saving a storage capacity. <P>SOLUTION: An image storage device 30 for taking in the captured images of an on-vehicle camera 20 arranged in a vehicle and storing the captured images in a captured image buffer memory 10 includes: a character recognition part 11 for performing character recognition concerning characters appearing on the captured images; and a position detection part 3 for acquiring position information of the vehicle. The character recognition part 11 performs character recognition with respect to the captured images of the on-vehicle camera 20 during the travelling of the vehicle. When the characters indicating a name are detected, the captured image with the appearance of the name is taken in as the captured image.
