599,822. Clutches; linkwork. MORANESAULNIER. April 23, 1945, No. 10200. Convention date, April 17, 1944. [Classes 80(ii) and 80(iii)] [Also in Groups VII, XXXII, XXXIV and XXXVII] A spring mounting (see Group XXXII) is applied to a free-wheel mechanism, Fig. 17, the driven member of which comprises a non-extensible elastic band 1 having rigidly secured to itself the outer ends of arms 12 which are pivotally mounted on a central plate 13 keyed to the driven shaft. The pivotal points of the arms 12 lie adjacent the periphery of the plate 13 which is spiral-shaped, the arrangement being such that the band is constrained to maintain a truly circular contour under deformation. Clockwise movement of the driving member 50 relative to the driven member 1 tends to expand the latter and transmit the drive. As applied to a clutch, Fig. 13, a circular band 1 is connected by arms to a spiral-shaped central plate as in Fig. 17 above, and may be outwardly pressed while retaining a circular shape, by rotation of the plate by a lever 46 to urge driven clutch members 42, 43, slidably keyed on the driven shaft 41, into engagement with the driving member 44. The band 1 carries small rollers (not shown) around its periphery to prevent it wedging between members 43, 44. An application to motion reducing linkage, Fig. 18, comprises a spring band 1 connected by arms 12 to a spiral-shaped central plate 13 the arrangement being such that the deflection of a lever 52 connected to one end 1a of the band 1 is greater than that transmitted to a lever 55 connected to the other end 1b. |
