System and method for detecting luminescence

An optical analysis apparatus and method in which a detector provides two different signals, based on responses to incident light absorbed within the detector over different depths. These signals are processed to discriminate between incident light of two different frequencies and thereby determine the intensity of the light of one desired frequency.
