A message 116 from a second vehicle 101 is received in a host vehicle 102, the message including data provided by the second vehicle. The data is analysed to determine that the second vehicle can operate as a lead vehicle and an operation (e.g. autonomous steering, speed change or suspension adjustment) is implemented in the first vehicle according to the data. The message may be a short-range wireless V2V communication. It may include data collected by sensors (e.g. camera, lidar, radar) on the second vehicle, thus providing virtual sensors for the host vehicle if it lacks such sensors. The message may include the location of the lead vehicle and the distance from it to an obstacle 160 or third vehicle 105 such that the host vehicle may determine its own distance from said object. |
