The device (10) has a detection unit including a strong field sensor (20) for detecting presence of static magnetic field at a level corresponding to a level to be emitted by a magnetic resonance imaging system. A selective activation unit activates the strong filed sensor operating in response to a low field sensor (22). A safety installing unit places an electronic detection/stimulation circuit (16) in a single protected magnetic resonance imaging mode when one of the sensors detect presence of the magnetic filed.
