[Class 135] In a liquid-pressure system of the kind described in Specifications 556,687 and 564,310, in which a liquid-pressure regulator is provided comprising a viscosity - responsive pressure control device for loading a regulating or release valve with a force which automatically varies in sympathy with changes in viscosity of the liquid in the system, the viscosity-responsive device and the release valve are located within an immersion chamber, whereby liquid discharged from the system through the release valve passes directly to the immersion chamber. A floating plunger z constituting the release valve and coacting with ports i controls the release of liquid from the system, connected at f to the immersion chamber d from which the liquid flows through a port y in an outer wall of the chamber to a container supplying the system. The upper end of the plunger z is subjected to the pressure of liquid in a chamber a supplied by a constant output pilot pump whose inlet and outlet are connected respectively at hand b, an outlet from the chamber a being through a restricted annular passage c formed between an adjustable conical plug q, constituting the viscosity-responsive device, and a corresponding conical bore. The pressure in the chamber a loading the release valve is, therefore, proportional to the viscosity of the liquid delivered by the pilot pump, the temperature of which liquid is substantially. the same as that in the immersion chamber and in the system. An emergency pressure release valve u, whose spring v may be adjustable, limits the pressure in the chamber a. A stop x, for limiting the downward movement of the plunger when the regulator is inoperative, is positioned so that the upper end of the plunger uncovers the ports i when engaging this stop to permit the escape of any sludge which may have accumulated on the top of the plunger. |
