<p>A vehicle, an autonomous vehicle, includes an engine 125, a park assist system 170, a passenger detection system 175 configured to detect at least one passenger, and a processing device 190. The processing device 190 initiates a shutdown sequence when no passengers are present in the vehicle. The shutdown sequence includes commanding the park assist system170 to park the vehicle and turning off the engine 125 after the vehicle is parked. The shutdown sequence may include commanding doors 110 to close and lock, commanding windows 115 to be closed, commanding side view mirrors to fold in and activating a security system 185. A navigation system 200 provides a location of the vehicle to a communication module 180 which transmits a massage which identifies a location of the vehicle. The park assist system 170 is configured to navigate the vehicle to the location. A startup sequence may include turning on the engine 125 based on a proximity of the passenger to the vehicle.
