A shelving and package locating system (10, Fig 1) for delivery vehicles includes one or more shelves (113, Fig 3) for storing packages (115, Fig 3) within a package-delivery vehicle during delivery. Each package (115) is associated with both a geographic delivery address and an assigned location on a particular shelf (113) within the package-delivery vehicle. A GPS receiver (90, Fig 1) determines the location of the package-delivery vehicle during delivery, and a computer (20, Fig 1) provides the shelf location of a particular package (115, Fig 3) when that package's delivery-location information substantially corresponds to vehicle-location information. An indicia reading device (80, Fig 1) may be used to scan package barcodes, QR codes, matrix codes, 1D or 2D codes or RFID tags and shelf indicia (111, Fig 3) in order to associate the package (115, Fig 3) with a location and transmit this information to the computer (20, Fig 1). A light, LED, visual or e-ink display or audible prompt (114, Fig 3) may be used to alert the driver to the location of a package.
|
