An embodiment of an electric machine includes inner and outer housing sections attached to one another to form, at an axial end of the electric machine, a cooling channel therebetween. Such electric machine also includes a bearing carrier coupled to the housing sections and radially registered to the inside diameter of the inner housing section. An embodiment of an electric machine includes annular, L-shaped inner and outer sheet metal housing sections enclosing a cooling channel at an axial end of the electric machine and otherwise being substantially parallel and contiguous, and includes a first bearing assembly coupled to the inner housing section.

1. An electric machine, comprising:
an annular inner housing section; an annular outer housing section, the inner and outer housing sections each having axially and radially extending portions, the axially and radially extending portions of the inner and outer housing sections respectively superposed, the inner and outer housing sections attached to one another to form, at an axial end of the electric machine, a cooling channel therebetween; a bearing carrier coupled to the housing sections and radially registered to the inside diameter of the inner housing section, the bearing carrier radially spaced from and substantially surrounded by the axially extending portions of the inner and outer housing sections, the bearing carrier radially supported entirely by at least one of the inner and outer housing sections; and a bearing assembly entirely located axially inward of the radially extending portions of the inner and outer housing sections and coupled to the radially extending portion of the inner housing section through the bearing carrier.
