[Class 109] A socket plug adapted for use in capping the end of a rope by engaging the end in a socket, such as 5, providing a tapered chamber for the end of the rope in which the plug is entered, has adjacent to its larger end a head 3 of relatively restricted length provided with spaced grooves 4 in which the strands of the rope may be engaged, the remaining portion of the plug being continuously tapered from the head to its apex and unprovided with grooves dimensioned to receive the strands. The plug is cast about the end of a length of strand forming a tail which is designed to substitute a portion of the core of the rope. The rope immediately adjacent to the small end of the tapered portion of the plug is permanently served with fine wire at 7. |
