a metal anode; an electrolyte; anda composite cathode, the composite cathode comprising a mixture of carbon monofluoride (CFx) and carbon-coated carbon monofluoride (C—CFx), the stoichiometric capacity ratio of carbon-treated carbon monofluoride to carbon monofluoride being in a range of from greater than 1:1 to 9:1.
