[Class 89 (i)] [Also in Group VII] Articles are secured to thin walls of plasterboard, hollow tiles, &c. by a fixing device extending right through the wall and deformable, to prevent removal, either by the fixing screw or by a special tool. A circular member 1 provided with a tapped cylindrical extension 2 has narrow strips 3 withsemicylindrical ends 4 having bent-out lugs 10 to prevent rotation of the device in the hole. On inserting a screw, the strips 3 buckle and collapse, as shown at 5, Fig. 6, and to prevent the forward end of the part 4 from projecting slightly from the hole this end may be domed slightly. The strips 3 are preferably so designed that buckling takes place nearer to the part 4 than to the nut, and depressions or corrugations 13 may be stamped in them at the front when buckling is required. In a modification, the end 11, Fig. 9, is hexagonal so that the corners drive into the material around the hole and flanges 12 may be provided to abut the washer 8 on the back of the article to be secured. In another form, a flanged tube with thickened end to act as nut ,and intermediate slits is employed. The slits may be inclined or helical. To facilitate fixing, the device in the wall and avoid the use of long screws the tool, Fig. 14, may be employed. A base 32 abuts the wall and lateral ears 33 have slots 34 to pass a fulcrum screw 31 of a lever 29 having a cam end 30. The screw is drilled to receive with play the reduced part 35 of a screw 28. The tool is applied with the lever flat against the base, the screw is engaged with the nut 2 and the lever is turned to the position shown. |
