A method for controlling maintenance or a cleaning cycle of a robotic system that cleans solar panels, comprising: obtaining operational data about the robotic system; obtaining environmental data relating to an area of the solar panels; determining, using a processor, a recommendation for control or maintenance of the robotic system based on the obtained operational data and the obtained environmental data; and outputting the recommendation to an authorized user, whereby the recommendation includes initiating a maintenance or cleaning cycle by the robotic system of the solar panels, terminating a pre-scheduled maintenance or cleaning cycle by the robotic system of the solar panels, adjusting a pre-scheduled maintenance or cleaning cycle by the robotic system of the solar panels, providing an explanation of operational performance of the robotic system that deviates from normal, directing replacement of a component of the robotic system ahead of schedule or directing replacement of a component of the robotic system during its next, scheduled maintenance.
