PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for reliably sterilizing containers in a simple manner without conducting significant modification/change even if the containers have different lengths.SOLUTION: A sterilization device includes a rod-like body 4 which may be introduced into an internal space of a container 10 through an opening part 11 of the container 10 and acts on an inner wall of the container 10 through radiation. Further, a device for sterilizing containers is provided with a lifting cam 54 which moves each container 10 in a longitudinal direction L of the container 10 and guides the container 10 so that the container 10 covers the rod-like body 4. Furthermore, the device for sterilizing the containers is provided with a moving device 64 which moves each rod-like body 4 relative to the lifting cam 54 in the longitudinal direction L of the container 10 so that a relative distance r between the rod-like bod 4 and the lifting cam 54 changes.
