An apparatus for setting machine tool coordinates according to the present invention comprises: a mounting bed which can be transferred in the left and right direction and in the front and rear direction, and on which a basic material is mounted; a camera which is mounted on an upper side of the mounting bed, and photographs the basic material; a monitor which outputs a planar shape of the basic material photographed by the camera, and additionally outputs a virtual reference line on the output image; a control unit which transfers the mounting bed so that a reference surface of the basic material can be matched with the virtual reference line outputted to the monitor, and if the reference surface of the basic material is matched with the virtual reference line, sets the center of the virtual reference line as zero point coordinates; and an input unit which inputs shape information of the basic material and operational signals of each unit. When using the apparatus and method for setting machine tool coordinates according to the present invention, reference coordinates of the basic material can be set more quickly and easily; the basic material or equipment can be prevented from being damaged by setting the reference coordinates of the basic material without directly touching the basic material; and the reference coordinates of the basic material can be set regardless of the shape of the basic material. |
