The present invention relates to a mobile terminal and, more specifically, to a mobile terminal which can provide a virtual keypad capable of providing more high accuracy, and a method for controlling the same. The mobile terminal according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises: a touch screen for displaying a keypad including a plurality of key buttons; and a control unit for determining a coordinate of a sensed touch input when the touch input is sensed on the keypad, determining a key button having the highest possibilities from the currently displayed key buttons by using a previously accumulated dot history with respect to the determined coordinate, and processing an input for the key button having the highest possibilities.
