PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To industrially produce a powdery alkali metal iodide or alkaline earth metal iodide. ! SOLUTION: There is provided a method for producing an alkali metal iodide or an alkaline earth metal iodide which comprises the steps of: substituting a solvent of an alkali metal iodide solution, an alkaline earth metal iodide solution, an alkali metal iodide or alkaline earth metal iodide suspension in which an alkali metal iodide or an alkaline earth metal iodide is dissolved or suspended in the solvent with an organic solvent; after the substituting step, dehydrating an organic solvent solution of an alkali metal iodide or an organic solvent solution of an alkaline earth metal iodide obtained in the substituting step; and after the dehydration step, drying the organic solvent solution of an alkali metal iodide or the organic solvent solution of an alkaline earth metal iodide. !
