An electronic receipt computer system includes a merchant system (106) storing receipt data representing respective receipts for purchases, a payment system (108) storing transaction data representing respective payment transactions and indicating each transaction's customer and a receipt database (104). The receipt database stores the receipt data of receipts from the merchant system and includes a parser (162) generating respective signatures from the receipt data and an engine (164) for matching the transaction data from the payment system with the signatures. The receipt database stores the transaction data for a receipt matched by the engine in association with the receipt data for the matched receipt and customer identification data for the customer of the transaction. The receipt data which is anonymous as it does not identify a customer is thus re identified. A customer's client device (1 10) can be presented with the associated transaction data and receipt data.
