PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable on-line measurement of the thickness over the whole width of a checkered steel plate while suppressing the measurement accuracy reduction due to variation in the steel plate width direction with a single thickness meter without using a plate width meter.SOLUTION: In measuring, online, the thickness of a checkered steel plate obtained by rolling by a hot rolling machine, a multichannel type thickness meter capable of simultaneously measuring the thickness of the whole width of the checkered steel plate is installed on the output side of the hot rolling machine, and the whole width thickness profile data of the checkered steel plate is measured by the thickness meter. Of the whole width thickness profile data, only the data that is not affected by the displacement in the direction of the steel plate width is extracted, and the thickness of the checkered steel plate is determined. |
