PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent processing not intended by a user from being performed in a device performing processing on the basis of gesture.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus having a touch panel display selectively displaying one of a plurality of screens stores in advance a rule for discriminating a plurality of types of gesture for each of the screens. When the image forming apparatus detects a motion of a user to the touch panel display, reads out the rule for a screen being displayed (#701), and discriminates the gesture represented by this motion on the basis of the read-out rule (#703 to #708).
