PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine capable of continuously and stably producing required electric discharge for spark ignition. ! SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine according to the present invention is a spark-ignition internal combustion engine generating plasmas in a combustion chamber of a cylinder by the interaction between an electric field generated in the combustion chamber via an antenna facing an interior of the combustion chamber and spark discharge generated between a central electrode of an ignition plug and a ground electrode thereof, and igniting an air-fuel mixture, the internal combustion engine estimating an amount of metal desorbed from the electrodes of the ignition plug by measuring an amount of current flowing in the electrodes of the ignition plug. !
