The invention relates to bacterial strains of the species M. smegmatis with the activity 3-ketosteroid-9α-hydroxylase inactivated or with the activities 3-ketosteroid-9α-hydroxylase and 3-ketosteroid-∆1-dehydrogenase, and to the use of said strains for obtaining substantially pure AD or ADD and steroids from same.
