544,972. Driving gear for lifts and the like. EXPRESS LIFT CO., Ltd., and DIXIE, W. A. Sept. 2, 1940, No. 13731. [Class 78 (v)] Reduction gear in a drive for a lift, hoist &c. comprises a multiple V-belt drive 7 taking from a pulley 6 on the motor shaft 5 and passing over a larger pulley 8 on the winding sheave shaft. The pulley 8, winding sheave 9, and a brake drum 10 may be formed as a unit, and are preferably mounted by ball and roller bearings 17, 18 on a stationary shaft 11 which acts as a brace for end brackets 13. A solenoid 21 controls brake shoes 22 bearing on the drum 10. The motor 1 is mounted on a concrete &c. block 2 isolated by sound and vibration absorbing material 3 from the floor 4, and the winding and brake unit is carried by a separate block 15 so that only the belting 7 can transmit any motor vibration to the lift or building. The drive is suitable for lifts having speeds from 200 to 600 feet per minute, and the power source may be electric or hydraulic.
