PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a prion-free nanoparticle composition and method.SOLUTION: Provided are a prion-free composition comprising a nanoparticle comprising albumin and substantially water-insoluble pharmacological agent, a method for preparing the prion-free composition, a method for eliminating prion proteins from the nanoparticle composition, a method for using the composition, and a kit useful for carrying out the method. In some embodiments, the composition contains less than about 100 fg/ml prion protein. In some embodiments, the composition has a prion infectivity of less than about 10 IU-ic/ml. In some embodiments, the composition has a prion infectivity of less than about 1 LD/ml. |
