PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet printer which can shorten the time required for replacement of ink and reduce waste of sheets in a case of changing the color of the ink discharged by an ink jet head. ! SOLUTION: A printing control unit 101 controls a printing unit so as to execute printing for replacement under a discharge condition corresponding to ink of an ink cartridge before or after the replacement when the ink cartridge of an ink supply unit is replaced with the ink cartridge storing another color ink, and to print a determination image for determining whether or not the replacement of the ink has been completed for each prescribed number of printing for replacement.
