This image projection device is provided with a reflective image display element for intensity modulation of illuminating light to form images on an image display surface comprising a plurality of pixel reflecting surfaces, by switching the pixel reflecting surfaces between two angular states, i.e., an image display state and an image non-display state. Designating the normal vector of the pixel reflecting surfaces in the image display state by VA, and the normal vector of the pixel reflecting surfaces in the image non-display state by VB, where the Y axis lies in the normal direction of the image display surface with the pixel center as the origin, the X axis lies in a direction orthogonal to the Y axis and the normal vector VA, and the projection of the vector VB onto the XY plane is designated by vb, projection vb forms a prescribed angle that is not parallel to the Y axis; and of the illuminating light impinging on the pixel reflecting surfaces and projected onto the XY plane, the projected light forming the largest angle with respect to the Y axis is present only to the side where projection vb is present, with respect to the Y axis. |
