Provided is a communication terminal device which enables the stable maintenance of direct communication between communication terminal devices without increasing traffic between the communication terminal devices. A communication terminal device capable of direct communication with a plurality of other communication terminal devices not through a base station is provided with: a reception unit which receives control information for controlling the direct communication from the base station; a transmission unit which transmits the received control information to the plurality of other communication terminal devices; a state transmission unit which transmits state information relating to the communication terminal device to the base station; and a notification reception unit which, when on the basis of the state information transmitted from one or more communication terminal devices present within the communication area of the base station, an alternative communication terminal device serving as a substitute for the communication terminal device has been selected from among the one or more communication terminal devices by the base station, receives from the base station a notification of the selection. The transmission unit stops the transmission of the control information when the notification has been received.
